Rate Increase October 1, 2024

Dear Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 130 Community,

We are committed to keeping you informed about the services and rates that affect your daily lives. With this commitment in mind, we wish to announce significant updates to our water and sewer rates, effective October 1, 2024. These changes are necessary to address the rising costs associated with water, sewer, trash, and security services.

Key Highlights from the Update:

  • Trash Collection Rates Adjustment: To address the deficit between the current charge and the actual cost of trash collection services provided by Best Trash, the Residential Sewer Rate will be revised.
  • Water Supply Costs: The cost for water delivery from the West Harris County Regional Water Authority, as part of the Groundwater Reduction Plan, will remain separate on the monthly bill and is not part of the rate modifications.
  • Comparative Billing Analysis: We’ve conducted a thorough analysis comparing our revised rates with those of the City of Houston to ensure fairness and transparency.

Detailed Rate Modifications:

  1. Residential Users: A new tiered rate structure for water usage and an adjusted sewer rate to cover operational costs and services.
  2. Commercial Users: Adjustments to both water and sewer rates to reflect actual usage and ensure sustainability of services.
  3. Irrigation Services: Revised rates aimed at encouraging conservation while ensuring the availability of resources for all.

For a detailed breakdown of these changes, including example bill summaries and how they may affect you, we strongly encourage you to read our full letter to the public.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. It comes after careful consideration and a thorough review of our current costs and future needs to ensure we continue to provide reliable, high-quality services to our community.
